Instagram is shaking things up in 2025 with a major grid format update - switching to a vertical 3:4 ratio. Love it or hate it, this change is here to stay! Here’s everything you need to know to keep your Hopper HQ scheduled content looking flawless.
New Instagram Grid Format
Instagram’s profile grid now displays posts in a 4:5 ratio (1080 x 1350 px) instead of the traditional square. This means:
All single images and carousel posts will appear in 4:5 on both the feed and grid.
Reels covers will now appear as 1080 x 1440 px (3:4) in the grid but 1080 x 1920 px (9:16) in the Reels feed.
How This Affects Existing Posts
Your older square (1:1) posts may be slightly cropped at the edges in the new grid preview, but don’t worry - the full image remains intact when tapped.
If you’ve designed your feed with a specific pattern, you may notice some layout shifts, but this won’t impact your content’s visibility.
How to Optimize Your Instagram Grid
Start posting in 4:5 format
Upload images at 1080 x 1350 px to ensure they display correctly across both the feed and grid preview.
Keep key elements centered
Since some users may still see a square grid, position important details (text, faces, logos) within a 1080 x 1080 px center area to avoid unexpected cropping.
Adjust older posts if needed
If an older post looks misaligned, you can tweak its preview by heading to the Instagram app:
Tap the three dots (•••) on the post.
Select Edit > Adjust Preview.
Reposition the image to fit better in the grid.
Save your changes!
