Why should you connect your Instagram business account to Facebook?
What do you gain from converting your profile into a business account?
Well, for starters, converting to an Instagram business account will allow you to supercharge your social media marketing by scheduling posts through Hopper HQ and accessing our various advanced features.
Not only will you be able to access your analytics from your Hopper HQ dashboard - where you can more easily make decisions and take action on any findings from your Instagram insights - you will also have more control over how your feed looks with tools like Grid Planner โจ
Linking your accounts will improve your Facebook and Instagram strategy, and will provide you with greater brand recognition. This is because Facebook has a far more powerful database than Instagram, so linking both accounts means that your posts will reach more people.
If you're serious about growing or nurturing an account, linking your accounts is one of the best things you can do.
Donโt overlook the importance of providing a smooth online experience for customers. By connecting your accounts, your followers can have confidence theyโre dealing with the same business, and you can offer seamless interactions.
With both platforms connected, you can compare audiences, post performance, and more. See where your organic efforts are taking off, and identify where it makes the most sense to invest in promotions.
Open an Instagram shop
If youโre interested in selling products or services on Instagram, you need a linked Facebook page to set up a shop. By connecting accounts, you can also sync business info and use features like appointment buttons and donation stickers.
Facebook own Instagram
As many of you know, Instagram celebrated its 10th birthday in October 2010, after being created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger. The platform exploded and had one million registered users just two months after launching.
Did you also know that Facebook acquired the photo-sharing app for $1 billion back in April 2012? And that, as of October 2015, over 40 billion photos had been uploaded to the platform? โจ
It was only in 2019 that Facebook added 'From Facebook' labels to Instagram and WhatsApp (yes, they own your favourite messaging tool too!), which came as a surprise to the many that didn't realise the platforms were related.
Facebook skepticism
Through conversations with the agencies, brands and influencers we've worked with over the years, we understand that Facebook has lost some people's trust, having come under fire for violating users' data privacy. Even Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, has been quoted as saying "Facebook as a company serves as a s*** umbrella for Instagram", in an interview with NBC.
While we understand some people's scepticism, the reality is that Facebook and Instagram are becoming more closely linked and that doesn't look like it's set to change. It isn't all bad though - there are many benefits to Facebook bringing Instagram deeper into its world, especially for those marketing on either platform.
At Hopper HQ, our mission is to help you master your social media marketing and be excellent on Instagram, that's why, in this article, we'll be telling you more about the benefits of connecting to Instagram via Facebook. We'll also be demystifying some of the most common assumptions and concerns we've heard from Hopper HQ users, but are always here if you have any burning questions ๐
What is an Instagram business profile?
Let's start with what an Instagram business profile is and how it differs from your standard account on the platform...
According to the Social Media College, "an Instagram business account is Instagram's version of a Facebook page. It tells Instagram that youโre using the platform for some sort of marketing (even if not for a conventional business), and it allows you to access a number of features that personal profiles donโt have."
This includes the ability to put paid spend behind (or boost) posts, add swipe-up links to your Instagram stories (if you have over 10,000 followers), access native analytics and gain access to shopping features.
What's more, it allows you to use social media management tools like Hopper HQ! โจ
Why does Hopper HQ require a connection with Facebook?
If you're already an Instagram business account holder or converted your profile to a creator account when they launched back in 2019, you may be aware that Instagram no longer forces you to link your Facebook page to your profile.
However, it is a still a requirement to have a Facebook page linked to your profile - whether it is a business or creator account - in order to use third-party tools like Hopper HQ.
To help you better understand this, we wrote an article all about creator accounts and how you can update your profile, ready to start scheduling, here.
Protecting your data on Instagram from Facebook
This is a concern we hear a frequently and we understand - Facebook has received it's fair share of bad press over the last few years for various data scandals, with many of us finally becoming aware of how powerful the organisation is.
But the reality is that if you're active on Instagram, Facebook are already able to access information about you, your business or personal brand, as they now own both platforms.
While Adam Mosseri himself has said that Instagram are learning from Facebook's mistakes, there are ways you can have greater control of your data - with a quick Google search, you'll find a number of articles helping you to protect your data from Facebook when using Instagram.

Linking your Facebook profile to Instagram
Another worry we hear often is that people don't want to link their Facebook profile to their business page or account. Not only do we understand this for data privacy reasons, we also understand that you may want to keep work and play separate.
One misconception is that you have to connect your most used Facebook profile to your account, but it is sufficient to set up an alias - if you would prefer.
This means that you could set up a completely separate Facebook profile, purely for professional use, which is only used to manage your business pages and profiles, as well as any third-party tools you use (such as Hopper HQ).
Final words
Facebook recognise the power of Instagram and are investing a lot of energy into supercharging the platform, especially for those who rely on it for their business.
If you want to get the most from the platform, converting to a business account is pretty essential - or you may risk losing out on some of the aforementioned features and the exciting things to come!
